A southeast Atlanta family is devastated after their loved one was struck and killed while walking to her bus stop.
Chiquita Green, 39, was struck on Campbellton Road in south Fulton County just before daybreak on Thursday.
The man who hit Green did stop and call police. Chiquita's family said they are unsure whether the driver should be charged.
"Lately they've been doing hit and runs and nobody knows what happened. I'm really grateful that he did stop, but I wish he would have seen her first," said Shateema Bishop, Chiquita's sister.
Chiquita was a hardworking single mother who was walking to the bus stop to go to a temp job at 5:30 Thursday morning.
"She was one of a kind. There is nobody like her. Nobody," said Bishop.
Chiquita was laid off of her job more than a year ago. Her car had stopped working and she had to walk and catch the bus if she wanted to get around. Her trip to the closest bus stop was 2.3 miles away down Campbellton Road, and then north on Fulton Industrial.
Bishop wants to see the county put more street lights up and have motorists slow down.
"Those cars come down there, I've seen it, witnessed it myself, about 50, 60 miles per hour," Bishop said.
Green leaves behind an 8-year-old son.
Fulton County police say they are still investigating the accident to determine if charges will be filed.
