Police are searching for thieves who stole dozens of vases from cemetery plots in Monroe, Ga.
Faith Shumate says someone took flowers, a vase and American flag her relatives' graves at Westlawn Cemetery.
"They desecrated not only my parents' grave, my niece's grave, my cousin's grave and I'm not happy with that," said Shumate.
Faith Shumate says she learned about the thefts on Sunday from her niece. Who had walked near the southwest corner of the cemetery with her roommate Ricky Womack.
Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman the crooks took around 40 vases, which cost about $350 each. Chapman said the case is personal because the vases from the graves of his father-in-law and stepfather-in-law were also stolen. He says law enforcement will do all it can to make sure the person or persons responsible are caught.
For Faith Shumate it's also very personal.
"I'm going to rattle cages if I'm 80 years old until I get justice," said Shumate.
Chapman said that investigators are checking with scrap metal yards to try to track down the thousands of dollars worth of missing vases. The sheriff hopes a new law in Georgia which imposes tougher penalties on recyclers who knowingly buy stolen metal will help him crack this case.
