ATLANTA -
Thousands of people celebrated the Fourth of July at Lenox Square on Wednesday.
Despite the threat of rain, organizers estimated that as many as 200,000 people attended the festivities, which included food, music, and -- of course -- fireworks.
Some groups arrived early for the show. Sara Barnes said her group, made up of neighbors from Marietta, has been attending the celebration for more than 15 years.
While some families congregated, strangers came together to play with bubbles brought by Amy Martin.
"All ethnicities are here and they're all just interacting and that's great," said Martin.
Jemupai Matata, who served as a Department of Defense contractor in Iraq for three years, said that she and others wanted to express their appreciation for troops still serving overseas.
