Soldiers' Angels hard at work on Christmas care packages

Posted: Updated:
DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. -

For one organization that supports our soldiers, it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas-- in July!  Soldiers' Angels is gearing up for their annual Christmas sendoff, and you've still got time to help.

Dianne Moore of Douglasville oversees the Georgia chapter of Soldiers' Angels, and she's got a garage stocked full of stuff to prove it.  The organization collects things a soldier might need while they're deployed-- from toothbrushes to lip balm to cotton gloves to sleep in-- and sends them care packages at Christmas.

"We just want to thank them and give them the recognition they deserve," explained Moore.  "Especially times like now, when we're celebrating our freedom, because they're the reason we have it."

The things they send to deployed or wounded soldiers might not mean much to the average person, but the packages mean everything to those who receive them.  And just like Santa's helpers, volunteers spend six months out of the year collecting, organizing and putting together the special packages.

The group's efforts don't go unnoticed.  The care packages are appreciated by the troops, which is evident by the number of thank you cards Moore receives back each year.  But if you ask Moore, soldiers laying their lives on the line for freedom is thanks enough.
