ATLANTA -

Residents in Georgia got a slight relief from the heat on Monday. While it was still hot, most areas saw sub-100 degree temperatures.

Over the weekend, temperatures got higher than ever in Atlanta and surrounding areas, and that left many people looking for ways to beat the heat.

Sunday's official temperature reached 105 degrees in the city, and while it may have been a degree cooler than Saturday, it was hard to notice a difference.  The city of Atlanta opened its pools free of charge, giving residents one option.  But for those who ventured to the Braves game on Sunday afternoon, it was a scorcher.  The team offered free watering stations to help fans stay hydrated.  Some fans left early because the heat was so intense.

FOX 5's cameras even caught some people trying to exercise amid the dangerous temps, but some said they had scaled back their normal routine.

FOX 5 Storm Team chief meteorologist Ken Cook Monday's high reached the mid to upper 90s in most areas. Macon did see a high of 102.

Is there any relief in sight?  Sort of.

"Highs will stay in the low to upper 90s for the next several, but there will be a 20 to 30 percent chance of thundershowers in the late afternoon and evening hours each day," Ken says.

The FOX 5 Accuweather 7-Day Forecast indicates things will stay hot for the rest of the work week, with highs expected to reach 97 on Tuesday, 96 on Wednesday for the Fourth of July, and 95 on Thursday.
