Distribution center move costing Ga. city 125 jobs

ATHENS, Ga. -

A farm-equipment company's decision to move build a new $50 million distribution center in Macon means jobs will be lost locally in one northeast Georgia community.

Tractor Supply Co. officials broke ground Friday on a 650,000 square-foot distribution center in Macon that will employ more than 200 workers.

The Athens Banner-Herald reports that while the move marks a net gain in jobs for Georgia, it means a loss for the city of Brazelton.

Tractor Supply was a major employer in Brazelton and surrounding Jackson County, where its old distribution facility had more than 125 workers. That distribution plant will close and be replaced by the new one in Macon, which has more than double the space.
