ATLANTA -

Pools and lakes are likely going to be the place to be this weekend as Georgians try their best to stay cool amid the oppressive heat.   The same was certainly was true at the Centennial Olympic Park fountain on Friday afternoon, where kids danced and splashed their way to cool.

Kids on summer camp field trips flooded the park, playing in the water and splashing with their friends.  Parents and camp counselors knew it was going to be hot, and many came prepared.

"Plenty of suntan lotion, spray, plenty of water for the kids to drink so they can have fun and keep hydrated," said parent Aunjelique Benoit.

If you're spending time outside in the heat, it's important to stay cool.  Experts recommend you drink plenty of fluids and avoid alcohol and sugary drinks.  You should also wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothes, and take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning if possible.  You should also avoid being outside during the late afternoon when temperatures are excessively hot, and limit your activity to early morning or late evening instead.

Also, don't leave kids or children outside for long periods of time because they may be more susceptible to heat exhaustion.
