Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Clayton County. It happened Wednesday afternoon.
CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -
Clayton County police say one of their own officers was forced to shoot a 13-year-old burglary suspect this afternoon. The scene unfolded near Bonanza Church Road and Tara Boulevard.
Authorities say they were alerted by neighbors that someone was breaking into a home. They say one suspect ran away, but officers confronted the 13-year-old boy, who was armed with a weapon. Officers ordered him to put it down, but he didn't respond. That's when one of the officers shot the teen.
The teen was first taken to Southern Regional Hospital, and later airlifted to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to investigate, as is customary anytime an officer is involved in a shooting.
The GBI later confirmed that the teen, who has been identifed as Trevion Davis, died after being flown to Egleston.
The involved officer has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
