ATLANTA -

Officials at Zoo Atlanta say Blaze, 16-year-old Sumatran orangutan, is expecting her second infant.

If the pregnancy goes well, zoo officials expect the birth to occur sometime in January 2013. Blaze lost her first infant in August 2011.

According to Zoo Atlanta officials, the Sumatran orangutan is a critically endangered species. They say habitat loss, over-harvesting of timber and human encroachment have reduced the number of Sumatran orangutans living in the wild to less than 6,000.
