ATLANTA -

There's nothing like a good home makeover to give you a soft place to land at the end of the day. Project Live Proud is striving to make that happen for some metro Atlanta residents who have hit some hard times.

Atlanta resident Katie Martin is a single mother, and a recovering drug addict. She has been steadily piecing her life back together after being homeless for four years. She's now back in school.

After living in shelters and treatment facilities, she finally has a place she can call home.

"We used to just roll on the floor and laugh and giggle. Like me and my daughter, we didn't have anything. Nothing in here. We just roll around and be like 'I can't believe this is ours.' I was happy with just that," said Martin.

Nyota Brooks, a social worker with a passion for interior design, wanted to turn Martin's empty rooms into an inviting space.

"She was very appreciative to have the apartment but I looked and I said I know we can help. We can do more," said Brooks.

Brooks started Project Live Proud, a group of interior designers who help transitioning families by transforming their homes.

"She actually sat down on the floor with me and talked to me about what I wanted, and where I came from. And she asked how did I get here and what are you looking to do later in your life," said Martin.

Based on the answers Martin gave Brooks, Brooks then had an idea on how to decorate Martin's apartment

"Ms. Martin is a hardworking, single mom, and so I wanted to create an exotic oasis for her. Because she said that her style was country and she liked things from nature. We made sure we put those touches in there," said Brooks.

Brooks and her team of volunteers made over every room in Martin's home.  She was very happy when the makeover was completed.

"Inspires me to keep doing better, you know. It's just given me a lot of hope. I feel like a mother, a homemaker, you know. I feel like that just because of what Project Live Proud gave me," said Martin.

Martin is working, and is in school studying to be an architect. Volunteers from Kohl's department stores gave a hand on the project, along with some accessory donations from CW Design House.
