Villa Rica police say two people were killed in a fire at an assisted care facility on Tuesday night. It happened near Thomas Dorsey and Daniel Roads.
FOX 5 has learned that the fire started at one home, and spread to another. The facility operates with 24-hour assisted living care. Loved ones say both victims are disabled men in their 50s who have been living there for about two years.
The sister of one of the victims told FOX 5's Portia Bruner that she's frustrated because she had to find out from a friend that her brother is dead. A cousin of that victim said she spoke to the caretaker who was inside the home when the fire started. She says the caretaker did the best she could to save her cousin.
The victim's cousin also says she was told the other man who died in the fire was smoking outside on the porch.
A man identified as the home's director says it's not clear what sparked the blaze. He also said he is working with investigators.
Smoke from the fire could be seen for miles around.
