Unsuspecting diners at The Varsity in Atlanta got a very special treat on Tuesday when President Barack Obama dropped by for lunch. That included a group of Gwinnett County summer campers, who now have a tale to tell about the field trip of a lifetime.
The kids, who attend the Lenora Academy in Snellville, were on a field trip to The Varsity and Centennial Olympic Park, but they never expected to run into the commander-in-chief. In fact, the kids-- who range in age from 5 to 11-- say they thought they were in for "another boring field trip", but that all changed when he walked in.
"Everyone started screaming and yelling, and he came to us first and shook all the kids hands-- and said, 'Okay, let's take a picture. You know what, I'm ready for a slaw dog!'" said Michelle Person, a teacher who was chaperoning the trip.
Teachers told FOX 5 that Obama stayed at the restaurant for about 20 minutes, eating lunch with the rest of his staff. In fact, video shot by another customer inside at the time shows Obama ordered five chili dogs, four hot dogs, and a burger--- presumably to share with his staff.
After lunch, the kids continued on to the park as planned, but they said they couldn't wait to get home to tell their parents that they met the President.
