ATLANTA -
President Barack Obama has been known to love a good greasy spoon, and his visit to Atlanta on Tuesday was no exception. The President paid a surprise visit to The Varsity, much to the delight of customers and employees who had no idea he was coming.
On his way to the Westin Peachtree Plaza for a fundraising event, he grabbed lunch and shook hands with lucky diners at The Varsity, a midtown fast-food drive-in restaurant known for its hot dogs and chili. Secret Service agents swept the restaurant only moments before the POTUS himself arrived.
Moments before the POTUS showed up, customer Amanda Ozment, who is @aomusic38410 on Twitter, tweeted, "#unexpectedplottwist I'm about to meet @BarackObama." A few moments later, she added, "I'm at a restaurant and they just told us he's coming. Just got my metal scan."
Ozment ended up with great video of Obama placing his lunch order. When he got his turn at the counter, one of the employees asked, "Whatdya have, whatdya have?"-- a slogan the restaurant is known for. The President ordered five chili dogs, four hot dogs and a hamburger--- presumably to share. Ozment shared the video, tweeting, "Whatdya have, whatdya have, Mr. President?"
The President did order drinks, and he also paid.
Ozment offered up the video for use on Twitter, graciously tweeting, "If anyone wants to use my #potus video of @BarackObama at The Varsity, you may."
According to Ozment's Twitter page, she's from Danbury, Connecticut. She also tweeted that she's vacationing in Atlanta.
