COBB COUNTY, Ga. -

A tree crashed through the roof a Cobb County apartment early Monday morning,  startling five people who were sleeping inside the unit.  It happened at the Rockledge Apartments on Powers Ferry Road at around 3 a.m., landing in the kitchen and hallway areas.

The men sleeping inside the apartment were not injured, but the incident left them quite shaken.

"You hear this thunderous crash. Everybody jumps up to see what the damage was. We get up and we see a tree in our kitchen," said Johnny McClenton, who was inside the apartment at the time.

Another occupant, Joshua Rodgers, says if the tree had come in at another angle, it could have damaged the rooms where they were sleeping.  He says he could have been severely injured or killed.

There were no storms overnight, and it's not clear what caused the tree to fall.  Crews worked Monday afternoon to clean up the debris.
