A Metro Atlanta dentist was offering up his skills for free on Saturday to people who usually could not afford it.
Dozens braved the sweltering heat and patiently waiting in line for hours outside Jones Bridge Dental care for their turn in the dentist chair. The Alpharetta dentist opened his doors to hundreds of people who can not afford dental work due to the tough economy.
Dr. Leo Yelizaroe was offering the day of free dentistry at his Alpharetta office. No appointment was necessary and procedures were offered on a first come, first serve basis. It was a service that was putting smiles on the faces of those visiting his office Saturday and is his way of giving back to the community.
The demand for free dentistry clinics has grown in recent years. Many who take advantage of the free services have put off going to the dentist because they can't afford it.
A team of 60 volunteers and clinic staff pulled shifts to help as many people possible. They offered fillings, extractions or cleanings at no cost.
This was Jones Bridge Dental Care's fourth annual "Free Dentistry Day." They helped about 150 people and patients who needed on-going care were referred to community clinics.
