The deadline is being extended for people to vote on a name for the new Georgia university that will result from consolidating two schools in Augusta.
The Augusta Chronicle reports more than 3,200 people have voted on a short list of possible names for the hybrid of Augusta State University and Georgia Health Sciences University, which are being consolidated by the state Board of Regents.
Voting on a name had been set to end Friday. But Susan Barcus, the medical school's chief development officer, says the deadline has been extended until Wednesday. That's when three finalists will be chosen. The Board of Regents will make a final decision on the consolidated school's name in August.
