The operator of a daycare is upset after she says her school van was booted even though she claims that she paid the parking fee. She says the act left a dozen small children temporarily stranded in downtown Atlanta.
Rena MacArthur, a Forest Park daycare instructor, said she had driven the children to visit Centennial Park in downtown Atlanta. They parked in a pay lot across from the park. When they returned to the van, it had a boot on its tire.
"The gentleman came out and said that we did not pay our parking fee, which we know we did," said MacArthur.
The fee to park was $5, which MacArthur said they paid. However, the attendant said only a portion of that amount had been paid. The parking lot employee told MacArthur that they had to pay $75 to get the boot off.
MacArthur said the children were forced to sit in the sun while they attempted to resolve the dispute.
"They were getting frustrated because they didn't want to sit any longer. They were ready to go and lay down," said MacArthur.
The owner of the parking lot said that the daycare is not telling the entire story. He said that the van is unmarked. He also said that the parking lot technician told him on the phone that he didn't see any kids around.
The owner said the parking lot is a business and must be run like a business.
A police officer told MacArthur that he couldn't assist because the lot is a private business.
After nearly an hour, MacArthur paid the fee to have the boot removed.
