Ga. teen's parents appeal decision on bully suit

Posted: Updated:
FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -

Parents of a Georgia teenager whose suicide was part of a documentary on bullying are appealing a judge's decision to dismiss their federal lawsuit against a school system.

The Fulton County Daily Report says (http://bit.ly/M9Loqv) an attorney for David and Tina Long filed a notice of appeal on June 15. They're appealing U.S. District Judge Harold Murphy's decision to throw out the case against the Murray County School District in northwest Georgia.

Their son Tyler hanged himself in his bedroom closet in 2009.

In 2010, the Longs sued the school district and the principal of Murray County High School, where their son attended school, claiming Tyler killed himself because he was relentlessly bullied at school and school officials failed to protect him. Tyler's story was featured in the 2011 documentary "Bully."
