Georgia woman gets published at 75

ATLANTA -

One metro Atlanta woman is proving that you're never too old to live out a dream.  Martha McCorkle deferred her dream in order of raising a family, but at the age of 75, she's finally become a published author.

Like any good grandmother, McCorkle reads to her grandchildren.  She's been doing that since her own five children were just babies.  But now, the book she reads is a bit more special-- because she wrote it.  It's called Teedawee and the Wooden Shoes.

Teedawee is a tiny termite who lives in Holland and loves the country, but hates the little wooden shoes people wear because they make so much noise.  She says she doesn't know where she came up with his name.

McCorkle wrote the story in 1963, when her kids were still young.

"They thought it was neat," McCorkle explained.  "Mother had written a story and it was a story that no one else had, so that's why they wanted to take it to school."

Her children's teachers encouraged her to publish it, but it wasn't until she was 75 that she made that dream come true.  McCorkle got with an artist from her church, and together they self-published Teedawee and the Wooden Shoes under the pen name Martha Mack.

The book is dedicated to McCorkle's late daughter, Lisa, who was killed in a car accident.  McCorkle says it's her family that helped make the whole thing possible.  She says the experience taught her that the book of your life isn't finished until the very end.

McCorkle says she's not stopping here.  She's already working on her next book, which is titled, Have You Met a Boodihoo?
