ATLANTA -

A city of Atlanta employee with pending child molestation charges has been allowed to continue performing his duties. Some officials are alarmed because the job gives him access to communities and neighborhoods all around the city.

Bobby Parks has been a laborer with the city sanitation department two decades.

The 62-year-old man is accused of repeatedly molesting a child starting when the girl was 11 years old.

Supervisors within the Public Works department claimed to be unaware of the charges against Parks, which have been pending since 2009. Parks has remained on the payroll and been performing his job.

"In various neighborhoods all over the city, exposed to potentially children of every age – from very small to teenagers," said Atlanta City Councilmember Michael Julian Bond.

Parks was recently arrested for allegedly not showing up for court appearances.

Bond said that the process to terminate Parks is underway.
