Braves RHP Beachy leaves with right elbow soreness

ATLANTA -

Braves pitcher Brandon Beachy left Saturday night's game against Baltimore with right elbow soreness.

Beachy retired his first 11 batters and was leading the majors with a 1.89 ERA when he was pulled in the fourth inning. The Braves announced the injury was "recurring elbow soreness" and said he will be evaluated.

After walking Chris Davis on six pitches with two out, Beachy stopped in front of the mound and signaled for catcher Brian McCann that he was injured. He walked off the field during a mound visit from manager Fredi Gonzalez.

Rookie Anthony Varvaro took his place and immediately gave up Matt Reynolds' two-run single that put the Orioles ahead 2-0.

Beachy allowed no hits and one run, struck out five and walked one. The right-hander made 40 of his 57 pitches for strikes. He was 0-3 with a 3.47 ERA in his previous four starts.

Beachy had seven days of rest following his last start, a no-decision June 8 against Toronto. After announcing the decision to give Beachy extra time off, Gonzalez said the pitcher had no injury issues.
