The Forsyth Sheriff's Office is warning people to on the watch for rabid animals after a fox bit a man and a dog in separate attacks.

Dan Temple said that when he took his dog for a walk, he heard what sounded like a fox, so he took the dog back inside and came out with his gun.

"I heard a rustling in the kudzu and I turned around, and it popped out right there and made a beeline for me," said Temple.

Temple said he started shooting, but the fox just kept on coming.

"It was kind of like a zombie fox, the way that it didn't seem to care whatsoever that I was shooting at it," Temple said.

Temple says he tripped and fell to the ground and that's when the fox bit his leg.

"Being 220 pounds, it was absolutely not deterred in any way from attacking  me," Temple said.

But Temple says he was able to kick the fox away and then shoot and kill it.

"It really kind of shook me up, just by the fact it was absolutely going to come at me, regardless," Temple said.

Animal control confirmed that the fox was rabid; a dog just a couple houses up the street was also bitten.

"Just the fact that it was so determined, really intimidated me and kind of sort of blew my mind," said Temple.

Temple did have to get rabies shots. He says that's been painful and much worse than the relatively minor bite.

He said that he had seen and heard the fox around his home for a couple days. He said he never imagined it was rabid and didn't think much about it because living near Lake Lanier, he sees all kinds of wildlife.

Animal control is warning pet owners to make sure their dogs and cats are up to date with their rabies vaccinations in order to make sure they stay safe.
