Get Up and Go: Byron Herbert Reece Farm & Heritage Center

This week's Get Up & Go adventure takes us two hours north of Atlanta, where you can explore the life of a Georgia farmer, poet and novelist.  Just last weekend, the Byron Herbert Reece Farm and Heritage Center opened in Blairsville, and FOX 5's Cheryl White has all the details you need to plan your visit.

The Reece family home has been renovated and now serves as the welcome center.  There, you can pick up a brochure to guide you around the 9-acre property, which includes five barns that house 13 exhibits to show you what life was like in Appalachia during Reece's lifetime.

In the 1940s and 50s, Reece received national acclaim for his four volumes of poetry and two novels.  He served as poet-in-residence at both Yount Harris College and Emory University.

To learn more about Reece and his work, you can watch the award-winning video, 'Voices: Finding Byron Herbert Reece.'  There are regular showings in the loft of the main barn.  There's also a walking trail that runs right along side beautiful Wolf Creek.

The Byron Herbert Reece Farm and Heritage Center is open Thursday through Sunday on Highway 129 just south of Blairsville.  Admission is $5 for adults, and less for children and seniors.  A family of five can get in for just $15.

For decades, Atlantans have woken up to Tom Sullivan on their radios.  But you might not know that he's also somewhat of an expert eBay seller, and he's got quite a story to tell.

They say the third time's a charm, and that's certainly the case for Candice Glover.  A third try on American Idol was just what she needed, and on Thursday night she was crowned the season 12 champ.
