STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. -

Two people were killed and several others injured after a gunfight broke out outside of a funeral at a church on Thursday, according to DeKalb County Police spokesperson Mekka Parish.

The shooting occurred at the Victory for the World Church on North Hairston Road as people were leaving a funeral service for 19-year-old Ryan Devon Guider, who died after being shot on May 26.

"Gunshots went off everywhere and people were just running and falling. It was something else," said witness Craig Sharpe.

Police believe that Marcus Ventress, the suspect in Guider's death, appeared at the church, which instigated a fight and subsequent shooting.

"All indications, the person involved in the death of my Guider showed up at the church and was in the parking lot. The initial word we're getting is that he may have had a gun today and shot in the air," said William Miller, DeKalb's director of public safety.

Ventress, 28, allegedly shot Guider several times in the stomach as an act of retaliation. Guider allegedly broke into Ventress' apartment and stole jewelry, drugs and cash. Guider also allegedly punched Ventress' mother, police said.

Ventress is not one of the people shot, according to police.

The view from SkyFOX 5 showed significant police activity outside the church, and yellow crime scene tape surrounding the church.

Two people were killed in the shootout. One person died at the scene, another died at the hospital.

Terry Davis said one of the deceased victims was his nephew, 19-year-old Carlos Henderson. Davis said he believed the shootings were gang-related.

"It's a tragedy. I wish that all this violence would stop. I'm extremely hurt, extremely bitter," said Davis.

Davis said that he did not know the identities of the other victims.

Several other people were injured, but they were reportedly walking and talking as they were taken to the hospital.

Church pastor Kenneth Samuel said that he had felt tension during the funeral service and tried to preach a message about the value of life.

"It's just sad that, if the shooters were at the service that they didn't pay attention, didn't take heed, and this is the tragedy that we're left with now," said Samuel.

Moments after the shooting, police pulled over a black Chevy Impala on North Hairston Road and took its five occupants into custody. Those men had not been identified as of early Thursday evening. It was not known if Ventress was in the car.

DeKalb County police said the vehicle was the gunmen's getaway.
