It's time now to Get Up and Go! We're heading out of this world. That's because Tuesday's destination is outer space! We're not actually leaving Earth but rather traveling via telescopes to see the planet Venus move across the face of the sun.
Miss it and chances are that you will never see it because it won't happen again until 2117. Scientists call it the transit of Venus
You can learn all about it at a special program in the planetarium at Fernbank Science Center starting at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Weather permitting, the Fernbank Observatory will be open for viewing the transit of Venus from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. That will be followed by a live feed from the NASA team in Hawaii. The entire evening's events are free at the Fernbank Science Center!
You can also view the transit of Venus atop Stone Mountain Park courtesy of the Atlanta Astronomy Club from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. About 20 large solar-filtered telescopes will be set up on the top of the mountain and club members will describe and explain the event.
Parking is $10 per car and there is also a charge for the summit ride to the top of Stone Mountain. Of course, you can hike up to the top for free.
