Police arrested 53-year-old Kenneth Gonzalez in Marietta on drunk driving charges on Friday.
WOODSTOCK, Ga. -
Police suspect an alleged drunk driver struck a construction worker on Interstate 575 on Friday and then left the scene.
Woodstock police say the incident happened in the southbound lanes on Interstate 575 near Ridgeway Parkway, where crews are working on a new exit, at around 9:30 a.m.
Police say according to witnesses, the driver of a GMC Sierra sped off after hitting the worker, who was near a trailer truck when he was struck.
Officials say the worker, who was employed by CW Matthews Contracting, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Kennestone Hospital.
Four hours after the accident, police later arrested 53-year-old Kenneth Gonzalez in Marietta on drunk driving charges.
Damage was seen on the passenger side of Gonzales' truck. It was unclear when that damage occurred.
Witnesses said they saw the truck at the scene of the construction accident. Police suspect Gonzalez was drunk at the time as well.
At 1:30 p.m., a customer at a Marietta liquor store called 911 about a man stumbling in the aisle. Police pulled Gonzalez over about a mile away and arrested him.
