ATLANTA -

It was a sad ending to an all night search for a missing Alzheimer's patient. Richard Wang Lin vanished Thursday from a Gwinnett County neighborhood.

Police say Lin, 72, wandered from his home in the Chattahoochee Reserve neighborhood off Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in Duluth Thursday afternoon.

Crews spent all night looking for him. A Georgia State Patrol helicopter noticed something along the side of Chattahoochee River on Friday and alerted park rangers. Authorities say Lin was found laying in two inches of water along the river. Lin was alert and conscious when pulled out of the river by park rangers.

They say he was suffering from hypothermia. He was transported to an area hospital where he later died.

Federal, state, Gwinnett County and Duluth crews participated in the search for Lin.
