An airport manager says the commuter airline GeorgiaSkies has indicated that it intends to discontinue its passenger flights between Macon and Atlanta.
Middle Georgia Regional Airport Manager Scott Coffman said the airline intends to discontinue the service in July. The Telegraph newspaper reports (http://bit.ly/L9Vp7H) that Coffman announced the development during a city council committee meeting this week.
Federal transportation officials say the number of passengers on the Macon-Atlanta route has dropped steadily since 2004. From January to April 2011, an average of 2.5 passengers per day left on scheduled flights.
Coffman indicated that steps might be taken to find a new passenger carrier to replace GeorgiaSkies.
