FOX 5's Lisa Rayam tries 'Extreme' workout

ATLANTA -

You don't have time to work out, but you have plenty of calories to burn. There's a new workout that may ramp up your metabolism in no time.

It's called Blast 900 and its all the rage. It's quick, convenient and, as FOX 5's Lisa Rayam found, quite the challenge.

Fitness expert Rich Shaw navigated Lisa through a class that's big on cardio and built on strength.

The class is designed to offer you the perfect combination to bust the fat.  The goal is to burn at least 900 calories in one hour.

It's fast and furious. In 10 to 15 minute intervals, Rich switches back and forth between cardio --either running , walking or jogging -- and floor strength: lifting, boxing and crunching.

Blast 900 takes circuit training to a whole new level.

The program in Buckhead is the brainchild of Missi Wolf, who says Blast is for everyone.

"When you come to Blast, you know in 60 minutes you're getting everything you need. All of your cardio, all of your resistance, all of your functional training, your core work, your ab work, stretch -- the whole gamut," said Wolf.

The key is pacing yourself.  Making the class yours.  You choose your level of intensity.

Kimberly Levine is a master at pacing herself.  She is a cancer survivor who has MS. She said that you can determine and adjust what you want to do.

It isn't just another rigorous workout. Trainer Rich Shaw insists on conducting a fitness assessment to determine how healthy you are going in.

You are also taught how nutrition plays an important role in fueling your body so it can inch closer and closer to the magic 900 mark.

After 60 minutes, Lisa managed to burn 929 calories!

There are two Blast 900 studios in the metro area. The first class is always complimentary. Then you are encouraged to do a fitness assessment and then meet with the on-site nutritionist.

On average, a Blast class will cost you about $28.
