Police are searching for a man who tried to abduct a child in Decatur on Monday afternoon.
Authorities said a driver tried to lure a young boy into his car on Commerce Drive near Ponce de Leon. They said the man offered the boy a free dog. The boy ran away.
Residents in the nearby Glennwood Estates neighborhood expressed concern for their children and said they would warn them of the dangers of strangers.
"The first thing I'm going to do is call my son who is walking home from school right now. So, going to make sure that he knows that there is a somebody out there recently and hopefully let him know to stay far away from strangers," said Michael King.
The suspect is described as an African-American man between 20 and 30 years old, with a goatee with a several-inch beard. He was driving a black Toyota Prius.
Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact Decatur police at (404) 373-6551.
