One southeast Atlanta neighborhood celebrated the news that its elementary school is staying open.

D.H. Stanton Elementary School was initially on the list of Atlanta Public Schools up for closure.

Saturday afternoon, parents, residents, and students celebrated the people who worked hard to scratch it off the list of schools closing.

The picnic was organized and paid for by members of the community.
