May 10: Congenital Heart Walk – Greater Atlanta - Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Stone Mountain Park, Stone Mountain, GA. 1st annual Congenital Heart Walk in Georgia offering a family friendly 5K route. Registration opens at 8:30 AM, the walk kicks-off at 9:30 AM. Join us for an inspirational day of caring, sharing, and fun at this inaugural event to help fight the #1 Birth Defect! The Congenital Heart Walk is an exciting joint effort between the Adult Congenital Heart Association (ACHA) and the Children's Heart Foundation (CHF)! This effort unites the Congenital Heart Defect (CHD) community to fight to make a difference. Funds raised will support the missions of both these national nonprofit organizations! Register today and show the world it is time to fight CHD! Here are just some of the facts: Nearly 2 million children and adults are living with a CHD in the United States. Each year approximately 40,000 babies (1 in 100) are born with a CHD, making it the country's #1 birth defect. At least 10% of all congenital heart defects are first found in adulthood. Thanks to increases in survival rates, the number of adults living with a CHD goes up 5% a year and adults with CHDs are living longer, fuller lives than ever before. Although we continue to make progress through research, more children die every year from CHD than from all childhood cancers combined. Your support will continue our progress!
