YouTube Video Shows Woman, Atlanta Police in IHOP Brawl

Atlanta police are facing serious questions after a viral video of a brawl inside a Buckhead restaurant hit YouTube. Witnesses say you can see a woman hit a police officer, and an officer hit that same woman.

FOX 5 showed the video to Atlanta Police on Tuesday night. They say their internal affairs office is now investigation to see if the officers involved were out of line.

Cell phone video posted on YouTube shows the confrontation between Atlanta police officers and two women inside a Buckhead IHOP. Witnesses say one of the women hit one of the officers, who then hit her back.

“It was like the royal rumble in there,” said Eugene Brown, who witnessed it. “It was Wrestlemania basically in there-- arms flying, screaming, shouting.”

Brown said he was at the IHOP early Saturday morning, coming straight from the Atlanta Hawks playoff game. His cousin shot video of the brawl.

Brown says even before police arrived, the women had been screaming, yelling and refusing to leave for several minutes.

“She was causing a scene,” Brown said. “It's the officer's job to get her and her troublemaking friend out of the restaurant.”

In a statement, Atlanta police said, "The Atlanta Police Department is aware of the incident that took place early Sunday morning involving one of its officers attempting to arrest a patron at an IHOP in Buckhead. The matter has been referred to our Office of Professional Standards to determine whether department policies and procedures were followed. Further comment at this time would not be appropriate."

Atlanta police say they are investigation. A spokesperson for IHOP says the safety of their customers and staff is their number one priority, and they are cooperating with police in the ongoing investigation.
