One man was shot late Thursday night in an officer involved shooting in Cobb County.
Cobb County police say they got a call about a suspicious person at an auto repair place on Puckett Drive and Mableton Parkway.
When a Cobb County Police officer arrived at the location, he confronted a man pulling out of the parking lot in a green 2003 Volkswagen Passat. As the Cobb officer was conducting the traffic stop, a Cobb County sheriff arrived on the scene to assist.
When the Cobb officer stepped away from the immediate area to check out the information that was provided to him by the man, the sheriff's deputy and the man became involved in an altercation. As the altercation was taking place, a second Cobb County police officer arrived on the scene.
As the man continued to disobey the officers, and when it appeared that he was reaching for a weapon, the second Cobb County police officer shot the man, say Cobb police.
The man was transported by ambulance to Atlanta Medical, but died of his injuries early Friday morning. Police identified him as 34-year old Matthew R. Murdock of Cumming, Georgia.
The names of the involved officers have not been released. The Cobb County Police officer who shot the man has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigations.
