Army Promotes Idaho Soldier Held Captive

An Alaska-based soldier from Idaho who has been held captive in the Afghan war for nearly two years has been promoted.

The Army on Thursday announced the promotion of Bowe R. Bergdahl from specialist to sergeant. The promotion was effective Sunday.

The 25-year-old Bergdahl, of Hailey, Idaho, went missing from his base in southern Afghanistan on June 30, 2009. He is the only American soldier being held in the war.

Bergdahl is assigned to 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, at Fort Richardson in Anchorage.
