Financial problems are causing turmoil at one of Atlanta's historic black institutions.
At the Morehouse School of Religion, one group of academic leaders is suing another and the students say they are caught in the middle.
There are six schools that operate under the umbrella of Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC). According to an ITC lawyer, Morehouse has failed for years to meet financial responsibilities required of all seminaries. ITC has discussed plans to take over Morehouse property and possibility take over the school.
Two Morehouse board members filed suit against the ITC to prevent the group from taking action.
ITC President Dr. Ronald Peters released a statement saying, “It is regrettable that they chose to file a lawsuit based on inaccurate information that can only have adverse consequences for them and the school.”
In a phone interview to FOX 5, ITC said it is committed to teach all current Morehouse students.
Students said they were worried about the uncertainty.
