Newnan cheerleader recovering from brain tumor

Posted: Updated:

A cheerleader from Newnan is recovering from cancer surgery.

Madeline McTier's story is causing an outpouring of support from cheerleaders across the country.

McTier, 15, said she woke up one morning with an excruciating headache. After being taken to the emergency room, doctors said she had a tumor at the base of her brain stem. She underwent a seven-hour surgery to remove the tumor.

"Hardest day ever, but we've been wrapped in prayer and so many people  that just, they hold us up," said Jennifer McTier, Madeline's mother.

Madeline's cancer battle spread through Facebook and Twitter, bringing prayers and support from cheerleaders across the country.

"It makes me feel like I'm wanted. Before…I did Facebook but I wasn't really popular, but now I am," said Madeline McTier. "I'm just thankful for that."

At Flood Brothers Moving and Storage, crews use pink storage crates in honor of Robert and John Flood's mother, who passed away from breast cancer last year. The commercial movers are donating the rental proceeds from those crates to a cure program for Madeline's family. They've already raised $9,000.

"She's just a happy, go-lucky kid that we're trying to help," said Robert Flood.

McTier must undergo radiation therapy in Jacksonville, Fla. for nine months. She will travel with her cheerleading team as they compete for the world championship in Orlando soon.

The Ace Cheer Company is also raising money to help the McTier family. They are selling t-shirts, bracelets and more. To find out more, visit:
