Lehtonen Undergoes Successful Back Surgery

Atlanta Thrashers Kari Lehtonen underwent successful back surgery on Friday, Oct. 30 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New York.

The procedure -- which was performed by neurosurgeon DoctorPaul Maurer -- removed edges of bone that were applying pressure to nerve roots in Lehtonen's back at two locations that were different than that of his original disc surgery on July 20.

Lehtonen is expected to be sidelined 6 to 8 weeks.

Thrashers GM Don Waddell told FOX 5 Sports he doesn't anticipate Lehtonen to be back until after the first of the year.
