ATLANTA, Ga. - Braves third baseman Chipper Jones told FOX 5 Sports he isn’t ready to talk about possible retirement until meeting with Braves management.
The six-time all star walked into Turner Field at 2:10pm this afternoon on his way to meet with Braves manager Bobby Cox and general manager Frank Wren amid speculation that he would announce his retirement in an afternoon press conference. Jones disputed that claim, telling FOX 5 sports photographer Thomas Goodhew that he “needed to go through the proper channels” before making any further comment.
When asked if he was planning to retire with Bobby Cox at the end of the season Jones said “No comment”. Jones has admitted lately that he’s frustrated with his lack of production. The former NL MVP is batting just .228 with three homeruns in a season plagued with nagging injuries.
Over the weekend, Jones told FOX 5 Sports that he wasn’t in a hurry to get back in the starting lineup because his replacements, Brooks Conrad and Omar Infante, have been playing so well in his absence.
