DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. (MyFOX ATLANTA) - Five students were suspended for fighting on a DeKalb County school bus and when one parent stepped in, he got in trouble too. The DeKalb County father said Tuesday that when he heard his daughter had been hurt during a fight, he got police involved, but in the process, he may have overstepped his grounds.

Charles Levy said when a neighbor told him his daughter had been stabbed, he ran to the school bus to see what happened.

"I felt something sharp hitting me. I felt myself being stabbed," said Levy's daughter, Latedra.

Thirteen-year-old Latedra Levy said she got into a fight with two boys after they called her younger sister a name.

The teen's brother also jumped into the fray. Latedra Levy said that's when one of the other boys on the bus pulled out some scissors. Six days after the incident, the 13-year-old still had some marks on her arms.

All five students involved in the fight go to Bethune Middle School in DeKalb County and all were charged with simple battery and bus misconduct.

Charles Levy admitted that he wouldn't let the driver move the bus until he called 911. Levy said while he was at the hearing for his children he was told he could also be in big trouble too.

"Board members that were in the hearing today said I held the bus hostage and I could go to jail for holding the bus hostage," Levy said.

A school spokesman would not comment directly on the particular instance but did say it's illegal to obstruct a school bus.

"Whenever you cut somebody with a weapon, a crime has been committed and police need to be called and someone needs to come in and investigate what happened," Levy said.

All the children involved in the fight had a hearing Tuesday morning and all of them were suspended until the next hearing, which has not yet been set.
