ATLANTA - Questions surround the death of an Atlanta woman who died after a kickboxing event in Orlando.
Adrienne Simmons was in Orlando for an international kickboxing match.
Simmons' boyfriend, who was also her trainer, is raising questions about her untimely death.
Police said Simmons was knocked unconscious during the final round of a three hour fight. Simmons' boyfriend, Chike Lindsay Ajudua, said Simmons' opponent was much more advanced.
"Her last fight ended up being against a girl that, I'm not exactly sure what her record was, but she had over 20, 25 fights and [Simmons] had less than five," said Ajudua.
Simmons and her opponent were engaged in Muay Thai kickboxing, where fighters wear head pads, but are allowed to use knees and elbows.
Ajudua said Simmons was knocked out cold during the match.
"When she hit the canvass, the back of her head hit and that's what caused the damage," said Ajudua.
There are unconfirmed reports about how quickly Simmons was treated after her fall.
"It took about a half an hour before she was on a gurney and ready for transport to the hospital," said Ajudua.
According to the Associated Press, a doctor treated Simmons on the scene before paramedics transported her to the hospital.
Ajudua said Simmons just wanted to be a better fighter.
"She wanted to feel stronger and that's what her motivation in doing it," said Simmons.
