ATLANTA ()MyFOX ATLANTA) - In a horrible case of animal cruelty in northwest Atlanta, a pit-bull mix puppy was set on fire and survived. Now the Atlanta Humane Society is offering a $5,000 reward to find who's responsible.
On Tuesday November 3, Chato, a one year-old bulldog-mix was let out to use the rest room. About 25 minutes later, the dog was seen about a block from his home on fire. A Good Samaritan immediately stopped her car to extinguish the dog using her own coat.
The dog is now at the Atlanta Humane Society Clinic and is being cared for by their medical staff.
“The dog’s injuries are mostly third and fourth degree burns, they extend throughout the dog’s entire left side. A good amount of the burning was focused around his mouth and face. At this juncture we’re trying to see if we can save his left eye,” said Director of Animal Welfare Initiatives and Outreach Miguel Abi-hassan.
Atlanta Humane Society expects Chato’s medical bills will cost upwards of $6,500 and are currently seeking assistance to help pay for his care.
The Atlanta Humane Society is offering a $5,000 for tips leading to an arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible. Anyone with information on this case is asked to call (404)974-2868.
