The final preparations were underway Thursday at the Hunter Christmas Tree Farm in Milton for all the families expected to start rolling in on Friday.

"There's a lot of people love to come get their Christmas trees and get it started out right," said tree farm owner Gordon Hunter.

At Hunter's farm, along with tree farms across Georgia, tree shoppers can help a military family, when they buy their tree.

"People really have enjoyed that, it's just a good feeling," said Hunter.

While families pick out their trees, a program called Trees for Troops allows them to buy a second tree at a discounted price to be shipped to a soldier and their family.

"It's a small thing we can do to help the military families. They've got a lot of things to deal with and if we can help them out with a little Christmas cheer, it gives us all a good feeling," said Gordon.

The program allows each donor to write a message to the family who is receiving the tree.

"We'll load these on a truck get them delivered to Fort Gordon, Georgia," said Hunter.

Hunter said he hoped to donate well over 100 trees this year.
