A retired Marine received big gift Wednesday. The veteran, who made a huge sacrifice, got a brand new home plus a few other surprises.
Corporal Vishnu Gonzalez was born and raised in the Dominican Republic and always dreamed of becoming a U.S. Marine.
Cpl. Gonzalez is now wheelchair bound after being paralyzed by a sniper's bullet while fighting in Iraq.
On Wednesday, Cpl. Gonzalez was welcomed to his new home in Hillsdale, New Jersey.
The charity, Homes for Our Troops, providing the four bedroom, 2.5 bath home to the retired Marine for free.
The project manager said the home is worth more than a million dollars on the open market.
Before he got a key to his new home Cpl. Gonzalez got another surprise. The 26-year-old was overcome by shock and emotion to see the men who saved his life after all this time.
The ,1800 square foot house is not only the first in New Jersey to get the highest level of certification for energy efficiency and environmental design, but it also has an elevator.
The home has lower countertops, pull-out storage and other special features to make Cpl. Gonzalez's life easier.
Homes for Our Troops has helped or is in the process of helping four Georgia veterans.
