In an effort to cut costs and raise revenue, European discount airline Ryanair is thinking about converting a section of its passenger planes to "standing room only," according to The Sun .
Ryanair CEO Michael O'Leary reportedly already has had talks with Boeing about how to adapt the aircrafts to fit the new seating plans.
Passengers would pay less to stand next to "bar stools" with seatbelts around their waists. Ryanair would have to get approval from the Irish Aviation Authority before ordering the newly designed planes, but a Ryanair spokesman said, "If they approve it, we'll be doing it."
O'Leary apparently got the idea from the Chinese airline Spring, according to the London Telegraph . Spring estimates space could be made for up to 50 percent more passengers and costs could be cut by 20 percent.
In March, O'Leary, who is known for outrageous and controversial ideas, proposed coin-operated toilets on planes.
