MORROW, Ga. - Police said a man wanted in connection with a hit and run that put a 7-year-old boy in the hospital turned himself in Tuesday.

Investigators said 34-year-old Avelardo Franquez is responsible for a hit-and-run over the weekend in Morrow that injured 7-year-old Damien Dennis.

Police said Dennis was in the back seat of his family car when it was struck. Dennis was listed in fair condition at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite.

Franquez turned himself in Tuesday night.

Morrow police took the suspect back to the Morrow Police Department for questioning and then returned him to the Clayton County jail.

Police say they credit the public and the suspect's family for Tuesday night's arrest.

Franquez faces a long list of charges including felony hit and run and an immigration hold.

Franquez's first court appearance at the Clayton County Courthouse is set for sometime Wednesday.
