DUNWOODY, Ga. (MyFOX ATLANTA) - A Dunwoody apartment complex was on edge Tuesday night after learning that one of its residents was allegedly abducted, beaten and robbed. Police said a 60-year-old man simply went out to get his mail when he was attacked. The victim said he thought he'd never see the light of day again.
According to police, the man was taken from the Broadstone Apartments in Dunwoody around 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 13.
Investigators said four suspects threw the man in the back of a van and took off.
Weeks after the incident police released surveillance video. Police said the video showed an older model white Chevy-type van and one of the suspects using the victims ATM card at area Publix.
Tuesday the victim's son spoke out the accident. "We found his car right over here unlocked. He was gone," said the victim's son, who asked not to be identified.
The victim's son said the ordeal lasted nearly 15 hours. "Knowing my dad, you know he wouldn't leave his car unlocked and so it was a very traumatic day."
Police said the victim was badly beaten and then dumped in Lithonia 15 hours later.
"His sternum was broken and he's still suffering from that," said victim's son.
The apartment complex went door-to-door Tuesday night warning residents to be on alert.
The victim's son said he was thankful his father is alive and hopes his alleged abductors are taken off the street. "After seeing some of the video footage they have we're very hopeful," he said.
The victim moved out of the complex and his son said he was still shaken up but recovering.
