ATLANTA, Ga. -
Many Atlanta roads resembled ice rinks after Monday’s winter storm, but part of Peachtree Street actually became one on Monday night. Now, the video has become a local viral hit.
Vimeo video posted by A. Nendel early Tuesday morning shows a thick layer of ice on Peachtree Street in Midtown. FOX 5’s cameras captured the same scene while in the area on Tuesday night for a live shot during the 10 p.m. news. Conditions left the normally-busy road almost empty.
“Peachtree Street may not be in the best condition for the typical driver in Atlanta,” Nendel wrote, “For (residents) familiar to this type of extreme weather though it could be perfect for a casual stroll around town on those unused ice skates.”
That’s exactly what he did. In the video, Nendel is seen skating down Peachtree Street between 11th and 14th Streets with the greatest of ease.
“The thickness of the ice on the street was just like a pond back home in Indiana, and seemed perfect,” Nendel wrote.
Nendel’s skate lasted about an hour, he wrote—with passersby shooting video and drivers in the area looking confused all the while.
Nendel's skating video had been viewed more than 48,000 times as of Tuesday evening.
