RINGGOLD, Ga. - Much of the town of Ringgold was destroyed by a tornado on April 27, and that includes two schools. Both Ringgold Middle School and Ringgold High School sustained damage so heavy that classes had to be cancelled. Now, the students at Ringgold High School are getting a helping hand from an unlikely place.
The Ringgold High Tigers baseball team has been looking forward to a return to the state playoffs, which take place this week. Last year, they were runners-up to the state champions. But, the twister that ripped through Catoosa County all but destroyed their field, and it left them wondering if they could play in the tournament at all.
The Tigers will get to play, thanks to their rivals. The Cartersville High School Hurricanes have stepped up to the plate to help the team. Ironically, the Hurricanes were the only team to beat the Tigers this season.
The Hurricanes were joined by several other schools in donating baseballs, shoes, and other equipment to the Tigers. It’s their way of helping another school in need, and showing they have a soft side. If both teams do well, they could end up meeting in the state championship.
Students who attend both Ringgold High School and Ringgold Middle School will be moved to other schools in the district to continue their school year, but that won’t happen for another week.
