ATLANTA, Ga. - Officials at Georgia Tech University say they’re devastated after the death of a recent graduate. Police say Liam Rattray was killed by a drunk driver in Little Five Points late Monday night.

Investigators say Rattray was riding his motorcycle near The Vortex restaurant when he was hit. The impact knocked Rattray from his motorcycle and sent him flying into the roadway, where he was hit by another car. Rattray was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital where he later died.

Police have charged Darrin Murphy, the driver involved in the accident, with DUI, following too closely, and homicide by vehicle in the first degree.

School officials say Rattray’s death is a devastating loss for the school. He had just graduated with the highest honors from the School of Public Policy, and he also won an award as one of the college’s outstanding students.

Murphy will have his first appearance in court later this week.
